What Are We About?
All teachers join the profession wanting to deliver the best education they can to every one of the pupils with whom they work.
But lack of time coupled with a high workload often forces them to make difficult decisions around what to prioritise.
Many end up leaving the profession — our founder, Dominic Bristow, was one of them.
Dominic is an ex-Physics teacher who left the classroom because he just couldn’t do any more marking. He believed AI might be the answer to the Catch-22 at the heart of teaching: how do you offer more support to pupils, while taking work away from teachers?
Enter stylus.
Backed by funding from the British Business Bank, the team at stylus is on a mission to find out whether AI really can transform the feedback process in schools.

Dominic is our visionary CEO, driven by a passion for transforming education through innovation.
Dominic began his career as a physics teacher and school leader, before transitioning from the classroom to the EdTech sector almost a decade ago. Dominic has been on a mission ever since to find innovative ways to solve the challenges facing teachers. With deep experience in school improvement, product innovation, and partnerships with some of the largest Academy Trusts, Dominic is now harnessing the power of AI to address the recruitment and retention crisis in schools while offering students unparalleled opportunities for success.
Hannah Gillott

Hannah is our Director of Schools. If you use our services, the chances are you'll meet with her!
Hannah was part of the Teach First 2011 cohort, and spent just under ten years working as an English teacher and Head of English in East London. She swapped the classroom for the world of EdTech at the start of 2021, and after almost three years working with a Maths company, joined the Stylus team in January 2024 just in time for the company's launch. Having spent several years talking to schools about Maths and Science, no one was happier than Hannah when our English marking service launched.
Tom Valsler

Tom is our Director of Product. He keeps the Stylus machine running smoothly and drives our AI innovations forward.
Drawing from his diverse background in graphic design, sales, customer support, and software development, Tom brings a unique perspective to product at Stylus. Passionate about empowering educators and learners through technology, he's now focused on harnessing AI's potential to transform education. When not tinkering with AI prompts, you'll find him mushroom hunting with his son.
