The ideas behind

Six ideas, each learned the hard way.

It all starts with a page of writing.
01

Service, not a tool.

You scan the writing. We do the rest.

A tool is one more system for teachers to run. We take the work on ourselves and answer for its quality. Nothing reaches a teacher unchecked.

02

The humble piece of paper.

No logins, no laptops, no training. It already works for every child.

Pupils write as they always have. Even the most reluctant teacher can use a photocopier, so the trust sees every class.

03

Capture the detail, not the grade.

A grade is one pixel. We keep the whole picture.

We assess every sentence against every criterion, so you see what each pupil can and can’t yet do. A grade comes easily from detail. Never the reverse.

04

Formative first.

Find the one thing holding a pupil back. Teach it tomorrow.

A grade says how far a pupil has got, not what’s in the way. We find the blocker, and group the pupils who share it, ready for tomorrow.

05

Expert evaluations.

We tune the model to expert teachers. Never the other way round.

Expert teachers marked everything by hand before we automated a thing. The model is still checked against them, every disagreement reviewed. We went slow to go fast.

06

Elevate the teacher.

The AI will never enjoy the writing. Teachers should.

We take the marking, never the judgement. And we’re at war with slop: AI feedback nobody checked, written for nobody in particular.
